SOFT TOY MAKING

Toy is an object made for children to play with. Children enjoy playing happily with the toy especially when they are colourful.

TYPES OF TOY

  • Soft Toy (2) Marionette
  1. SOFT TOY: A soft toy is a kind of toy in the shape of an animal. It is made of fibre and stuffed or filled with soft pieces of materials e.g. teddy bears. Teddy bears can be in form of cat, rabbit, tortoise, elephant, rats, cow, bear.
  2. MARIONETTE: Marionette is a type of toy moved by strings e.g. puppet. A puppet is a model of a person or an animal that can be made to move by pulling strings attached to parts of its body or by putting your hands inside it. Marionette is a type of puppet whose legs, arms and head are moved by strings. In other words puppet with string is called marionette.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR TOY MAKING

Fabric, scissors, pencil, paper, razor blade, cotton wool, thread, string, wood, nail, button, glue adhensive, ribbons, stockings etc

PROCESSES OF MAKING SOFT TOY (rabbit or cat)

  1. Draw the outline of your choice of rabbit or cat on the paper.
  2. Cut out the shape to be traced on fabric or stockings.
  3. Cut out the different part of the teddy on the fabric or stockings in such a way that the teddy bear can be made out from the fabric/stockings cutting
  4. Sew the different cutting together with needle and thread
  5. Turn the sewn inside out to conceal or hide the middle marks
  6. Let one end of the fabric open so that you can stuff in the cut out pieces of materials.
  7. Fill or stuff the sown fabric with cotton wool, foam a piece of coloured cloth.
